What is CEREC?
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a CAD/CAM system that allows dentists to design and mill custom ceramic restorations in-clinic — in a single appointment. No messy impressions, no temporary crowns, no second visit. You walk in with a damaged tooth and leave the same day with a precision-fit ceramic restoration.

How CEREC Works
The process is remarkably streamlined:
- Digital scan — A 3D camera captures the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth in seconds. No impression trays, no gag reflex, no distortion.
- Computer design — Dr. Mehta designs your restoration on-screen using CAD software, ensuring perfect anatomy, contacts, and bite. You can see your new tooth before it's made.
- In-clinic milling — The design is sent to an in-office milling unit that carves your restoration from a solid block of dental ceramic in approximately 10–15 minutes.
- Bonding — The restoration is tried in, adjusted for fit and bite, then bonded to your tooth using biomimetic adhesive protocols.

- Galvanic reactions: Metal crowns can create electrical currents with other metals in the mouth
- Dark margins: The metal edge often shows as a grey line at the gum line over time
- Opacity: PFM crowns don't transmit light like natural teeth — they look opaque and lifeless
